Flash and Powerpoint

  1. I've gone through the tutorial a number of times and I still can't get it to work. What could I be doing wrong?
Honestly, the most common error I've encountered in the years I've been explaining this is: users trying to embed the *.fla or the *.exe file instead of the *.swf file. This is just like publishing to the Web, so you should use the *.swf format.

  2. Can I make the background of the Flash movie transparent?
I haven't currently found a way to force Powerpoint to use the transparent property of the ActiveX control. I know that Internet Explorer supports this function. I'm searching for a way to force Powerpoint to use that functionality, as well. So, for now, no.

  3. The text and graphics I placed on the page don't show up on top of the movie. Why not?
The embedded Flash movie will not allow anything to sit on top of it. It will always be the top most object. Powerpoint loads all of its components before activating the embedded movie layer, so it will always float to the top. I'm looking for a way around this, but I haven't found one yet.

  4. Help! Why is my movie stalling when I return to the slide?
See the tutorial I wrote to help you fix this problem.

  5. I coded the location of my movie but it doesn't show up. What could I be doing wrong?
The most common error here is not hard coding the location of your movie into the dialogue box. There's a difference between "mymovie.swf" and "C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\mymovie.swf". It's important that you hard code the movie location into the URL box, otherwise it might not work.

  6. None of your frequently asked questions are coming even remotely close to answering my query. What am I supposed to do now?
Hit the flashgeek board. The users of this forum are very helpful.
